I find it hard to believe that
August has gone, and
school is starting this
week. Someone once said
that the longer the chain
the shorter each link
appears to be (or
something like that). This
has been a strange year,
90 degree weather in the
Spring, and none until late
summer; though a week of
90+ was pretty brutal.
The couple of times I did
get to the field I was
impressed. I especially
think the idea of the
‘Memorial Park’ with the
stone is a good idea. If
you haven’t been to the
field, it’s worth it to go see
them. The two major field
events are behind us,

SEPTEMBER MEETING TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY
This month the meeting will be held NOT on Thursday evening as
usual, but rather on Saturday September 19. See Irv’s callout on
the next page.
Dawn Patrol and the
Quickie 500 Race were
both very successful.
Thanks to Bob Boulais
and Dennis Thibodeau for
pulling off two great
events!
We’re approaching the
time of year where the
executive committee gets
busy. October is the
month for both renewals
and elections. We’re
actively seeking members
who wish to serve in any
capacity. Most of the
current members have
been serving for more
than 5 years or longer.
The club needs a change
in leadership once in a
while in order to promote
new ideas and direction. If
you’re interested in
influencing the direction of
this club, please step up.
We also need to set the
2010 budget, so any
thoughts for that are
needed soon.
Lastly (yes it’s that time
already), we need to begin
preparations for the
Auction. September is
when all the advertising
must be submitted to the
AMA. W e’ll be doing that
soon. Don’t forget, next
February 13 and 14, 2010.

The September Club
Meeting will be on
Saturday, September 19,
2009 from 7 - 10 AM at
the field (rain or shine).
The normal Thursday
meeting will not take
place in favor of the
Saturday "BreakfastFly".
The club's grill passed a
pancake test a few
weekends ago, and we'll
be adding sausage,
bacon, and eggs, as well
as juice and coffee. If
you have any other ideas
for a way to make this a
memorable dining
experience, please bring
your ideas/creations to
the meeting. Family
members are welcome,
as well as anyone else
interested in flying R/C.
We'll try to hold the
Glider Contest (prizes
1st through 3rd) if the
ground is not wet. Water-

Just a few words about
past and coming events:
The 4th Annual New
England Jet Rally is now
history and is a fond
memory in the minds of
23 jet pilots from the
New York City area, all
over New England and
Canada. My
condolences to those
that stayed away
because they were
scared away by potential
Past and Coming Events
like a zucchini, and we
wouldn't learn much
about trimming.
However, we will hold a
spot landing contest. The
landing zone will be
marked on the field, with
a point structure, and
you can make three
takeoff/landings on each
flight. Judgement will be
based on where the
wheels first make
contact. Touch and
Goes, or full landings
and takeoffs may be
used, as long as the
engine remains running.
Your total score will be
the sum of all three
landings. If time permits,
we'll add more flights
and keep a running total.
The point of this event is
to have some fun, hone
our landing skills, and
impress the spectators
(or maybe not). There
will be a prize for the
pilot that most
consistently "hits the
spot".
Flying early in the
morning, before the wind
comes up, is really
enjoyable. This, coupled
with the culinary fare that
will be provided, should
satisfy all of a dedicated
R/Cers desires.
Please try to attend and
make this experiment a
success!

bad weather. I saw a few
of our club members that
were there as spectators
and their post event
reports were positive.
I flew 10 flights, the
plane flew 11. Five
gallons of fuel passed
through my JetCat
engine but my landings
still need some attention.
True to the character of
modelers, I got lots of
help with trying to work
out my landing issues.
Put September 13th on
your calendar. The
NEDS Float Fly will
happen at Mansfield
Hollow State Park. On
September 19th, R/C
Boat racers from New
York and all over New
England will tear up the
water at Mansfield
Hollow Park.

From Dennis Thibodeau
August 1 & 2, 2009
First of all, I want to thank
the members of NCRCC,
HCRCC and NEPRO that
came out to work and make
this race one of the best and
most efficiently run races I
have ever acted as Contest
Director ( CD )for. We were
able to fill all the working
spots with seasoned
experienced pros. From all
the NCRCC members that
mowed the field and to those
from Hadley (HCRCC) and
Nepro, that came out to work
as the starter and assistant
starter, timers and pylons,
and our noon time lunch
cooks . You made this event
the best it has ever been. My
heartfelt thank you to all of
you for making this event so
successful.
The President of the National
Miniature Pylon Racing
Association had flown in from
Hilo Hawaii and his home in
California to attend this
weekend race. Scott McAfee
had nothing but high praise
for the workers and the
professionalism the exhibited
in performing their duties. He
stated that he has never been
to a race that ran so smoothly
and expertly as this one.
Coming f rom the President of
the NMPRA. I think this
speaks highly of all our
workers from NCRCC and
HCRCC ( Hadley Mass)
You all made my job as CD
go so smoothly and hassle
free.
NCRCC Race Recap
“ My heartfelt thank you
to all of you for making
this event so
successful.”
Saturday August 1
st
We had 21 contestants in
Standard and Expert and one
in the sportsman class.
(beginner) I had hoped to get
the first heat off the ground by
9:30 and I came close, the
first race of the day launched
at 9:40 am. The racing went
smoothly and there were
some close races and as part
of racing, only two aircraft
were loss due to pilot errors.
We flew 5 complete rounds of
racing before calling it a day.
This was all completed by
3:30 pm and I reopened the
field to our members and
guests for sport flying. Mike
Massy and Joe Tropea who I
call “Masi’s flying circus” flew
the “FLYING LAWNMOWER”
and A WITCH on her
broomstick as well as some
control line and helicopters.
Joe is quite the heli pilot but I
think he forgot where the
ground was and crashed his
heli on the runway. Now, the
witch, well she usually had
been killed each year but this
year she just got a severe
case of Poison Ivy as they
landed her in the deep
weeds off the field.
Saturday at 4 we started the
cookout and picnic for all
NCRCC members and guests
and at no charge to anyone.
This picnic has always been
billed as open to all our
NCRCC members but few
come out to enjoy. Steak,
hot dogs, hamburgers, corn
on the cob, soda and all sorts
of delicious side dishes were
gladly devoured by all that
were in attendance.
After dark a campfire was lit
and enjoyed until time for
bed. We had 5 motor homes,
Campers and tents that spent
the weekend at the field.
Sunday, August 2
We had 24 standard and
expert class fliers and two in
sportsman. We again got the
first heats in the air shortly
after 9:30 am. All my workers
arrived on time and again
were able to fill all the
working positions. The day
was going smoothly until the
signal lights at Pylon 1 started
to malfunction. I guess the
dampness and humidity over
night got to them and the fix
was soon repaired and
Racing began again. The
racing was even more close
than on. 2 contestants in lost
aircraft one to a low pass
around Pylon 2 that scattered
wreckage through the tall
grass and into the tree line.
Thanks to Peter Tami and
Bob Nadeau, all the major
parts were recovered in the
week following and will be
returned to that pilot at
Hadley in Sept.
The most spectacular crash
came in one of the Expert
heats, ALL 4 planes were
wing tip to wing tip for most of
the race, I heard a thump
and looked up to see who
went down only to see that
the flag on Pylon 3 was in
shreds. All 4 planes were still
battling it out. Two laps later,
Irl Brown from HCRCC
squarely hit the pole
supporting the flag for pylon 2
Q500 racing…
and severing that 2” PVC pole
in half. Of course his plane was
re-kitted as it literally exploded
into a mass of balsa and foam
parts. WOW!
After all was said and done and
Nepro and all the expenses
were paid off, this race
including the noon time food
sales after feeding all the
workers for free, netted
NCRCC a total income of
$973.
Again Thanks to all that
helped.

From Jim Haney:
In a nutshell ...... I used to
do landscaping for a living
(in my younger days) and
learned that it's all in the
detail that turns a
"homeowner" look into a
professional look. The
striped finish of a zero turn
mower instead of going
around in circles until you
get to the middle.
Trimming .......making
sure you get that last
blade of grass sticking up
next to the house, edging
the sidewalk, shaping the
trees etc. It's just
something I take a lot of

pride in doing. That's what
I'd like to do to the field
particularly for the events.
Some finishing touches I'd
like to see; a new flag
atop the pavilion with
NCRCC on it (and a flag
for each major event), and
real windsock. I'm also
conveniently located in
Vernon, close to the field.
Some applicable
background on myself: I
was raised on a 60 acre
farm in PA with an 1800 ft
sod runway cut through
the middle of the fields
(641 Cafferty Road,
Ottsville PA <<<< put it in

work the fields and fly my

The August 13, 2009
regularly scheduled
meeting of the NCRCC
was called to order by
President Bob
Laflamme at the
Knights of Columbus
hall at 7:44 PM. The
President was present
and the Secretary was
in the chair. There were
approximately 14
attendees.
OLD BUSINESS –
Events: Reports were
given on both the Dawn
Patrol Event and the
Q500 race. Both events
turned out well. The
Race was well
attended.
NEW BUSINESS –
Call for Candidates:
Elections are about to
take place and as
outlined in the bylaws
any members who want
to run for a position to
serve the club should
let someone on the
Executive Board know
of their intentions to run
for a position .Bob
Spooner plans to run
for VP and Jim Haney
plans to run for the
position of Field
Supervisor.
NCRCC Meeting Minutes – August 13, 2009
Jet Rally at Gardner
Airport - John Palica
informed the club that
there would be a jet
rally on the weekend
which runs on Friday
through Sunday.
Glider Activity – Irv
brought the gliders he
made up, but they could
not be rubber band
launched indoors so the
activity was
posthponed.
Breakfast Meeting at
the Field – Irv said he
will hold a breakfast
meeting where we
serve pancakes, eggs
and bacon and juice
and coffee. One
member also asked for
a Saturday meeting, so
that will be incorporated
as well so the breakfast
meeting will be held on
Saturday 9-19.
Xmas Party Activities
– Irv asked members to
volunteer to run one
activity at the Christmas
Party. He would like to
get more people
involved in running the
event. Another
suggestion was to hold
it on a night other than
Thursday evening.
Field Meetings – There
was a lot of whining
about the meeting
being changed from a
cookout meeting at the
field to an indoor
meeting at the Knights
of Columbus. Bob
Boulais took
responsibility for the
decision and explained
that a lot of preparation
goes into the field
meetings, not the least
of which is purchasing
burgers, dogs, drinks,
rolls and such. The
forecast was for storms
and at 3:00 when the
decision was made, the
sky was extremely
gloomy and looked like
rain. Irv said that in the
future, we’ll hold the
meeting at the field
Rain or Shine and we’ll
put up tents if we need
to.
New Members: Ron
Vernier from Bolton
introduced himself, as
did Ken Gorton who is
re-joining the club after
an absence.
Project Presentation
W ayne Galbraith
brought in a Delta W ing
jet which was framed
up. It is the same model
he built in 1957. It was
a Navy SkyRay F4D-

using Lite Span.
The meeting was
