Wow, October already!
The chill is in the air and
the leaves are starting to

OCTOBER MEETING TO BE HELD INDOORS AT K OF C
This month the meeting will be held back indoors on
Thursday evening at the Knights of Columbus (downstairs)
on Route 140 in Windsor Locks. The meeting starts around
7:30 PM. If you have a project – bring it to share!
can see from the Slate of
Officers, we’ll have two
shiny new faces helping
out on the Executive
Board. New views and
an infusion of
enthusiasm are most
welcome! Please keep in
mind that the new
Officers
(as well as the
old ones)
need your help
to do our job. We cannot
do everything all by
ourselves. Perhaps
you’re not ready to make
a year-long commitment.
There are plenty of other
opportunities and no task
is too small even if it is
picking up trash at the
field or emptying the
garbage can. The
NCRCC is an
organization about which
we all can be proud!
Virtually everyone can
find some small way to
give back to the club or
help make the meetings
more enjoyable. We
need someone to help
out with the coffee and
donuts now that we are
indoors.We would like
help with the activities for
the Christmas Party
which is right around the
corner. How about
participating by bringing
a project to the meeting
to show what you are
working on? And don’t
forget about the auction
in February. Whether
you want to be a team
leader, an assistant team
leader or have a simple
idea that you think might
help some aspect of the
auction run more
smoothly.
And by the way, thank
you for everything that
you’ve done to help the
club!

Everyone enjoyed the
food - the "just add
water" pancake mix
tasted great…
Saturday morning,
September 19, 2009,
Green Road, NCRCC
Club Field, 7:30 AM.
Pancakes, Sausage,
Coffee, Scrambled Eggs,
Nitro - smells wafting
across the pits.
Parking lot full of cars.
40 club members and
guests milling around
reminiscing on past aero-
glories. The whine of a
few electrics and then
the more soul-satisfying
sound of a strong 2
cycle.
The club grill covered
with trays to handle the
unfamiliar fare, 3 cooks
loading the plates,
orange juice flowing and
coffee perking on the
stovetop.
Down on the runway
intrepid pilots seeking to

plant their wheels in the
middle of the spot
landing rectangles, club
members adding their
comments and laughter.
This is what you missed
if you didn't attend the
September NCRCC Club
Meeting at the field.
We had about 10 pilots
compete in the Spot
Landing Contest. Mike
Maznicki set the early
pace with 6 perfect spot
landings. Don Nadeau
was close behind but
had one narrow miss. Art
Usher, flying a light
weight electric, put 'er
down in the center 5 out
of 6 times as well.
We then decided that the
top 3 scores should have
a flyoff - one attempt to
nail the spot, no go-
arounds. Mike was off
first and, by the slightest
of margins, just missed
the center spot. Art
Usher nailed the spot,
but the aesthetics of the
approach caused a
minor detraction. Don
Nadeau, however,
greased his sport plane
in right on the spot for
the first prize.
Prizes were task-
appropriate spotlights.
The top three all got LED
flashlights for their
superlative efforts.
During the Spot Landing
Contest the wind started
to increase and the cloud
cover diminished the
sunlight. The weather
soon reached a level of
intolerance that caused
all the attendees to
decide that the meeting
was over.
The Breakfast
experiment was a
positive one. All agreed,
though, that we should
hold the BreakfastFly
Meeting earlier in the
season when the
weather is more
predictable. Everyone
enjoyed the food - the
"just add water" pancake
mix tasted great, and the
Sausages provided by
our Treasurer added a
lot to the experience.
The field was a little too
wet to hold the catapult
glider contest, so this
event will take place next
year.
The next meeting will be
indoors at the Knights of
Columbus in Windsor
Locks. Please bring your
dues as this is when they
are due.

I have placed an order
for more hats and
should have them by
the week after the
October 8th meeting
(poor planning on my
part). For those that
frequent the flying field,
I will keep the hats in
my truck so if you're
interested in purchasing
one or more they will be
available there as well
as at future meetings.
The price, as in the
Hats and Monthly Raffles…

past, is $15. Colors
avai lable are Red,
Green, Black and Tan. I
have 3 of each color.
I will also resume
the raffle at the October
meeting. I have a few
donated items that may
be of interest. One is
the magnet style Top
Flight Prop Balancer
and the other is a Top
Flite Woodpecker.
Tickets for the raffle are
$1 each with bonus
tickets when you buy $5
worth and more. If there
are specific items that
you would like to see in
the raffle, please let me
know and if there is
anough interest I will
offer that item at a
future meeting.

Indoor Flying – Well, I
spoke to Bob Spooner
and he said the indoor
flying will begin in
November, depending
on the weather. He said
it could be the second
or third week.
On a similar topic, I was
talking to Dave Johnson
a week or so ago. He
was giddy about a new
indoor plane Tower is
selling. He was really
excited about it! It is a
16” wingspan airplane
Miscellaneous Ramblings
called a “Playmate”. It
sells for only $79 and
that is a complete ready
to fly package which
includes the airplane,
battery and the 2.4 Ghz
transmitter!
The Tower website
even has a short video
showing the relative
size and how it flies.
Hey Dave – maybe you
should send one to Bob
Spooner so he can let
newbies try it at the
dome. Seems like it
would be a good
investment to me!
