World War I Fly In

DAWN PATROL is an IMAA and AMA sanctioned non-competition event.  Aircraft must be 1939 or earlier, and must meet IMAA size and safety requirements; an on-site inspection (standard IMAA) is performed. There is a nominal entry fee; sanitation facilities are on-site. Lunch and drinks can be purchased at the event. For more info contact:

Panoramic view of DAWN PATROL 99 on July 11, 1999. As you can see,
there was a good turnout of aircraft as well as spectators.
All eyes are cast upward as Giant World War I aircraft take to the sky!

Tom Kosewski's big beautiful Morane Saulnier comes in for a landing  at Dawn Patrol '99. Aircraft is one-third scale and is highly detailed as are all of Tom's planes.

Bob Saunders' beautiful F4B2. It has a 68" top wing, is powered by an OS 1.20 four-stroke and weighs 11.5 pounds. Bob is from Willington, CT.

Dennis Hernandez from Hollis, NY shows off his Junkers CL-1.  It has a wingspan of 80", weighs 15 pounds and is powered by an OS 1.08.

A nice shot of some of the details on Tom Kosewski's giant Morane Saulnier A-1.  It has a wingspan of 101" and tips the scales at 28 pounds. Tom is from Boylston, MA.

A closeup of Gus Deltwas' giant Sopwith Pup.  The Pup weighs 42 pounds and is powered by a Hornet 4.2. Gus is from Lawrence, MA.

Mitch Epstein's SE5a has a wingspan of 96", is powered by a Zenoah G-62 and weighs 36 pounds.  It's a beautiful flyer!

Dave Johnson from Vernon, CT displays his 84 inch Taube with the four cylinder Cirrus engine he fabricated (seen at below)  as well as a 61 inch Fokker D III. Dave flew both models at Dawn Patrol 1999.

Is that Voss on venturing over the Green Road sector? No, its actually David Johnson's Albatross which was distroyed in a mishap just days before the Dawn Patrol Fly In. A new one is under construction so perhaps we'll see it at Dawn Patrol 2000.

A close up of Dave Johnson's Cirrus four-cylinder engine. Dave has fabricated a number of these miniature engines for use in his aircraft. The Cirrus powers a 84 inch Taube which weighs 9 pounds. Flight characteristics of this model is "very scale".
